Dr. Michelle Bennett is the founder and president of Civility Solutions. For over a decade, she has worked continuously to combat incivility and bullying among children and adults, using her Take a Stand Against Bullying curriculum she co-developed in 2001.
Her research expanded into incivility, and in 2009 she created her acclaimed Creating a Civil and Respectful Workplace program. Incivility and bullying often affect the climate in which students and employees should be thriving and growing, getting in the way of both performance and productivity.
Dr. Bennett has worked for the King County Sheriff’s Office since 1990 and has filled various roles including School Resource Officer, Field Training Officer, Master Police Officer, Washington State Criminal Justice Training Academy Tactical Officer and Instructor, Field Training Sergeant, Bicycle Sergeant, Street Crimes Sergeant, Community Police Sergeant / Coordinator, and Youth Explorer Sergeant in her career as a law enforcement officer.
She served as the Chief of Police for the City of Maple Valley Police Department from 2004 to 2008. She was then promoted to Captain and performed as both an Operations Captain and an Administrative Captain for a year at the Maple Valley precinct. In 2009, Michelle moved back to her position as Captain/Chief of the Maple Valley Police department.
Michelle earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Washington University in Law and Justice, a Master of Science degree from Central Washington University in Psychology/ Organization Development and in 2008 completed a Doctorate of Education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction from Seattle Pacific University.
Since 1998, Michelle has taught criminal justice classes in local Washington State colleges including Shoreline Community College, Highline Community College, and Central Washington University. Michelle is also an adjunct for Northwestern University of Police Staff and Command and she teaches the Blackboard, Information technology and Staff study portions of the Command College Curriculum.
